Our History & Mission

Bridging Cultures, Connecting Lives

Our History

The history of Ogden Japanese Christian Church reaches back to the early days of 1900 when there were nearly one hundred Japanese school boys who had been admitted to the United States from Japan.  A Christian fellowship was formed under the leadership of Mr. Masasuke Kobayashi and a congregation was formed as a result of his work. Later on, in the 1920's, the congregation grew in strength and numbers until the present building could be purchased in 1927.  Today, while we treasure our Japanese heritage, the majority of the congregation is English-speaking.  Even as we celebrate the Japanese-American history and heritage of our parents and grandparents, we also celebrate the many cultures and customs of our multi-ethnic families and neighbors.

Our Mission

Trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we spread the good news of God's love in word and deed to all ages and cultures guided by the Holy Spirit in all we are and do.

Our Future

In December 2002, we will celebrate our 75th year of ministry in central Ogden.  As the neighborhood is changing, so we are changing as well.  We are working together to meet the challenges facing a small, multi-cultural congregation set in an urban neighborhood.  We see opportunities for mission and ministry all around us.

Today, while we treasure our Japanese heritage, the majority of the congregation is English-speaking.
